Board of Supervisors Approves 16% Real Estate Tax Increase!
On a cold and windy Monday, the Montgomery County Board of Supervisors provided little warmth for the cause of liberty, as they passed a 12 cent increase in the real estate tax rate for the taxpayers of our county. Three Republicans, Gary Creed, Jim Politis, and Chris Tuck held fast and voted NAY, but were outnumbered by their free spending colleagues (all four Democrats) who approve this historic increase. Supervisor Tuck even prepared a wonderful, well thought out, and impressive 5 minute power point presentation showing how we could use monies from a multi-million dollar reserve fund to reduce the INCREASE to 10 cents. However, the big spenders were dismissive of his facts and showed their true colors by approving the 12 cent measure. Our new rate will be 87 cents per hundred of assessed value. Around 30 citizen patriots showed up, many showing support for a lower tax hike by wearing red shirts. A dozen or so spoke in opposition to the increase. However we were outnumbered by over 100 green $shirted “educators” who were also present. About a third of them spoke in favor of the increase, bolstering the spending spree.
The NRV Tea Party appreciates the support of the citizen patriots who braved the blustery weather outside the building only to face the arrogance of officals elected to serve the public, not just employees.
Thank you for showing up and voicing your opinion. Perhaps if we had more folks showing up on our side of the debate, the outcome may have been different.
Next month, when the tax bills arrive in everyone’s mailbox, maybe we will see more participation in our cause for liberty!
Every dollar taken out of your pocket by the government is one less dollar YOU have to choose where, when, and on whom to spend.
